What causes the battery inverter to shut down?
Hello all. My volt meter is indicating 12.5 Volts on Chassis and 12.25 Volts on House Batteries, which is usually and does currently cause the inverter to shut down.
Why is my house battery charger not working?
When I plug into Shore Power (50 Amp) or to Generator Power (7.5KW), voltage does not change, which would seem to indicate the charger in the Inverter/Charger (Xantrex 458) is not working. My suspicion is my house batteries are somehow preventing the charger from kicking in.
What happens when you connect a charger to a battery?
When you connect a charger to a rested battery, it will typically see a battery terminal voltage that is lower than the charger’s idea of what is fully charged and start a charge cycle, on that basis. If the battery is, in fact, charged, the charge cycle will terminate quite quickly, indicated by the charger going in float.
Why does my RV converter not charge the batteries?
If your RV converter not charging batteries when plugged into shore power you need to take a close look at the contact posts of your RV batteries. Sometimes a buildup of greenish or white corrosion can get to a point where the batteries can’t receive a charge or receive a minimal charge.

What happens when the battery is disconnected from a power converter?
When disconnected from the battery , or when the batteries are fully charged. When the shore power is connected the battery voltage should rise close to this as it charges. The + output of the converter, The + side of the DC panel, and the + side of the battery all hook in common.
What happens to the inverter when the charger is off?
If you are turning the inverter on, it will not actually come on unless the charger is off. The way it works is that when both the charger and inverter are on, and AC power is turned off or goes off (charger is not working) the inverter will come on to provide AC power. My Magnum has two small buttons, one for the charger and one for the inverter.
What happens if you don’t have a power converter?
Without a properly working power converter, RV appliances and electrical fixtures won’t run. The converter ensures that power is properly distributed throughout the RV, 12V is supplied to the DC systems when the RV is plugged in to shore power or running off generator, and the house batteries are kept charged.
